"I remember Rajiv Gandhi on this day because...": Congress' Shama Mohamed extends wishes on International Women's Day

New Delhi [India], March 8 (ANI): Congress leader Shama Mohamed on Saturday extended her wishes on the occasion of International Women's Day and remembered former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on the day.
"I congratulate all the women of the country on the occasion of International Women's Day," she said.
"I remember Rajiv Gandhi on this day because he gave 33 percent reservation to women in Panchayati Raj. We have also implemented the Gruha Lakshmi Scheme in Karnataka, where we send Rs 2000 to women's accounts, and it is also present in Telangana. The promises made by Congress for women, it fulfills them," Shama Mohamed said.
The Congress also posted on its official handle on X and extended wishes on International Women's Day.
"On International Women's Day, we salute the strength, resilience, and leadership of women throughout history. We are committed to empowering women through equitable opportunities and progress. Together, let's build a future where every woman thrives with dignity & freedom," the party said.
President Droupadi Murmu, in her message on the eve of International Women's Day, observed every year on March 8, extended her greetings to all women across the country.
"On the occasion of International Women's Day, I extend my heartiest greetings to all sisters and daughters," the President's Secretariat said in a release.
"International Women's Day is an occasion to honour the achievements of women power and their unique contribution to the country and society. Women are the foundation of our family, society and the nation. Women have successfully carved out their identities in diverse fields, despite facing adversities and challenges", President Murmu said.
"However, much needs to be done to improve women's socio-economic conditions. Let us all pledge to create a society where every woman feels safe and has equal opportunities to advance. I congratulate all women achievers and wish them a bright future," she added. (ANI)
