Patna (Bihar) [India], October 10 (ANI): Jyoti Singh, wife of actor-turned-politician Pawan Singh, met Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor in Patna on Friday. She clarified that there was no discussion about elections or tickets, emphasising that her visit aimed to ensure no other woman in Bihar faces the hardships she endured and to advocate for justice and women's rights.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Jyoti Singh said, "I did not come here to contest the election or seek a ticket, I came here to ensure that no other woman has to face the injustice I faced... I want to be the voice of all such women. So I met Prashant bhaiya. There was no discussion on elections or tickets. I have come here just for all those women..."
She emphasised that her focus remains on fighting the injustice faced by women and that her intention is to bring about positive change in society.
After the meeting, Prashant Kishor addressed the reporters, stating that while he cannot intervene in Jyoti Singh's family matters, he supports her safety and democratic rights and urged her to fight legally.
"Jyoti ji came here as a Bihari, as a woman...We listened to her. First, she has not said anything about contesting the election. I felt that contesting the election or getting a ticket was not her motive. In her own words, she is facing a grave injustice. She wants what happened to her should not happen to any other woman in Bihar," Kishor told reporters.
He further added, "She wants help from Jan Suraaj. I have told her that Prashant Kishor can have no role in her family matters, but I have told her that she need not be scared as far as her safety or democratic values are concerned..., Jan Suraaj will be with her, she should fight in a lawful manner... Pawan Singh is also a friend of mine. I cannot say anything about her family matters. If she has come to me, it is my social responsibility to meet her and listen to her. She has not asked for anything from me."
On Thursday, Jyoti Singh had expressed her desire to contest from the Karakat Lok Sabha seat, citing that her husband has not visited the region since losing the 2024 election from the constituency.
Earlier, the Election Commission announced the schedule for the Bihar Assembly elections. The 243 Assembly seats will go to the polls in two phases on November 6 and November 11, with the counting of votes scheduled to take place on November 14.
