New Delhi [India], Apr 28 (ANI): Aam Aadmi Party candidate from East Delhi Atishi Marlena on Sunday clarified that she 'belongs to a Punjabi-Hindu family' after a former Congress MLA called her a 'Jew.'
"Asif Muhammad Khan, a former Congress legislator from Okhla, has tried to spread a lie by calling me a Jew. I and my party do not believe in religious politics, but I had to come out to clarify that I belong to a Punjabi-Hindu family," Atishi told media.
This comes a day after Khan during an election rally said that Atishi is a
"Yahudi" and Muslims can vote for anyone except a Jew.
Khan also said that Muslims cannot accept the leadership of Jews and asked his supporters to spread this to every household so that Atishi can be defeated.
"The Congress party is making such statements as it is frustrated. It has nothing else to question. They cannot question our work. So, they are targeting me over my religion," she said.
She also alleged that BJP nominee Gautam Gambhir is “repeatedly violating” the Model Code of Conduct.
“Gautam Gambhir has not yet clarified whether he has two voter card or not. Today Gautam Gambhir has again held an unauthorised rally. I have filed a complaint in the EC to ban him from campaigning for 72 hours,” Atishi told media persons.
Delhi, where seven Lok Sabha seats are at stake, will go to polls on May 12 in the sixth phase of seven-phased Lok Sabha elections. The counting of votes will take place on May 23. (ANI)
