Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], March 5 (ANI): Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC on Wednesday welcomed the suspension of Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi from the Maharashtra Assembly's Budget Session over his contentious remarks about Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb.
She advised Azmi to take lessons and read books... or watch a movie like 'Chhaava' so that he could understand who Aurangzeb was and why there was a demand to suspend him.
"I am happy that Abu Azmi has been suspended from the Maharashtra assembly and the demand by Yogi Adityanath that he be suspended from the Samajwadi Party is completely legitimate because he is making a hero of Aurangzeb who did nothing but destroyed Hindu temples... The fact is that when Abu Azmi has been suspended, it is the time that he takes lessons and read books... or watch a movie like 'Chhaava' so that he could understand who Aurangzeb was and why there was a demand to suspend him," said Shaina NC while speaking to ANI.
Azmi's comments, which sparked widespread outrage, portrayed Aurangzeb as a skilled administrator, sparking accusations that he was glorifying the controversial emperor.
The suspension motion, moved by Maharashtra Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandrakant Patil, was passed by the House. The controversy began when Azmi claimed that Aurangzeb was a great administrator, citing India's GDP during his rule and his construction of temples.
His statements were met with strong opposition from the Mahayuti legislators, who demanded his suspension. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also condemned Azmi's remarks, stating that his words would have consequences and that the people of Maharashtra would not forgive him.
A zero FIR was registered against Azmi in Thane, which was later transferred to the Marine Drive police station in Mumbai.
The suspension is seen as a significant move, with many calling for Azmi to be suspended from the Samajwadi Party as well. The incident has sparked a heated debate about historical narratives and the glorification of controversial figures.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday attacked the Samajwadi Party and its Maharashtra MLA Abu Azmi over his controversial remarks on Mughal ruler Aurangzeb.
Addressing the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, CM Yogi, while condemning the Samajwadi Party, asked them to remove Abu Azmi from the party and send him to Uttar Pradesh for "treatment".CM Yogi said, "Samajwadi Party us (Abu Azmi) kambhakt ko nikalo party se, UP bhej do, baaki upchaar hum apne aap karwa lenge." ("Remove that person from (Samajwadi) party and send him to UP, we will do his treatment.)
Earlier today, Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar suspended Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi for the entire duration of the ongoing budget session on Wednesday over his remarks on Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. A proposal was brought in the Maharashtra Assembly today against Azmi's remarks.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandrakant Patil said in the House that Azmi's objectionable statement had hurt the dignity of the House, leading to the proposal to suspend his membership for this session, which the Speaker passed.
Azmi had reportedly said that Aurangzeb was not a "cruel administrator" and "built many temples". He added that the battle between the Mughal emperor and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was for state administration and not about Hindu and Muslim.
Abu Azmi expressed his disappointment after being suspended for the entire duration of the ongoing Maharashtra budget session on Wednesday over his remarks on Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.
Abu Azmi said, "To ensure that the House functions, I spoke about withdrawing my statement. I did not say anything wrong. Still, there is a controversy and proceedings of the House are being stalled. To ensure that the House functions and some work is done during Budget Session...I withdrew the statement that I made outside the Assembly, not in the House. Still, I have been suspended." (ANI)

"He (Farooq Abdullah) was attending a function. We were all with them.
