"History in making after 26 yrs in Delhi": MP BJP President VD Sharma

Indore (Madhya Pradesh) [India], February 8 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh BJP President VD Sharma claimed that "history is in the making after 26 years in Delhi" and asserted that the "BJP will make a clean sweep" as the counting of votes for the high-stakes Delhi Assembly elections is set to take place on Saturday.
"Tomorrow the results of the Delhi assembly elections will be announced. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a history is in the making after 26 years in Delhi, " Sharma told reporters here on Friday. " The BJP will make a clean sweep."
"The people have put their trust on Modi ji.... Now, it is time to develop the Delhi. This time we will make history in Delhi," he added.
The AAP is aiming for a third consecutive term, while the BJP is leaving no stone unturned in its bid to return to power after more than two decades.
Most of the exit polls released on Wednesday have given the BJP an edge over the AAP. However, AAP leaders said that exit polls have always predicted the party winning fewer seats than it actually secures. They expressed confidence that the party would return to power.
Polling for the 70 member assembly was held on February 5.
The BJP's campaign, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, attacked the AAP over the alleged toxicity in the Yamuna River, while the AAP highlighted its "performance" in education and health during its eleven-year tenure. Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi also attacked Kejriwal in his rallies in the run-up to the polls.
Key constituencies include New Delhi, where AAP leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is contesting against Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit and BJP's Parvesh Verma.
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi is facing a contest against BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri and Congress candidate Alka Lamba. The campaign saw sharp exchanges between leaders of the three parties.
The Congress, which was in power for 15 consecutive years in Delhi, has suffered setbacks in the last two Assembly elections and has failed to win a single seat.
The AAP dominated the 2020 Assembly elections, winning 62 out of 70 seats, while the BJP secured only eight. (ANI)
