Nagaon (Assam) [India], December 20 (ANI): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday lashed out at Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over the scuffle that took place in the Parliament, alleging that the incident "exposed" the Congress leader's "true character" to the public.
"Rahul Gandhi's yesterday's behaviour, that behaviour has shocked us all. He pushed a senior MP, misconduct towards a woman MP from Nagaland, that incident was unimaginable, we had never seen or heard that type of incident in our life. I know his character, and now his character has come out infront of the public. People will now gradually realise that this type of leader will bring only darkness, they don't show us any hope or light. They will divide the society and will do injustice to the society," the Assam Chief Minister told the media in Nagaon on Friday.
The Parliament witnessed parallel protests from both the Treasury and Opposition benches outside the parliament on Thursday morning. The ruling BJP MPs were protesting in the Parliament's premises against the Congress party for "insulting" BR Ambedkar.
INDIA Bloc MPs led by Rahul Gandhi held a protest in the Parliament premises and demanded the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his remarks on BR Ambedkar. Leaders from both sides alleged being pushed and shoved by each other's rival leaders.
Two BJP MPs, Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput were injured, and both were rushed and admitted to Delhi's Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
Speaking about the police locking Indian Youth Congress President Uday Bhanu Chib at a hotel in Guwahati, the Assam Chief Minister allleged that they had come from Himachal Pradesh to cause 'trouble' here and the police had put them in the hotel instead of sending them to jail.
"If it had been a different state, they would have put him in jail. But Assam is a loving state and he has been kept in a hotel," CM Sarma said.
Hitting out at the Assam Congress, Sarma said that, in the past few days, the Congress that is Bhupen Kumar Borah or Ripun Bora, had wanted a shooting incident in Guwahati.
"There is a competition among 2-3 leaders of the Congress party that who is the biggest leader. In that competition, they have been hostage to the people of Guwahati. A political party is not an agitator, political party agitation only happens in election boxes. It is not the job of political parties to do agitation. They want chaos in Guwahati and we will not allow to do this," the Assam Chief Minister said.
CM Sarma on Friday distributed benefits to over 20,000 students under the state government's 12-Day of Development initiative. (ANI)
