New Delhi [India], July 25 (ANI): BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Thursday demanded that border areas of Jharkhand and West Bengal be declared a Union Territory and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) be implemented in the region or else Hindus will disappear.
Dubey from Godda constituency of Jharkhand while taking part in the debate over Union Budget 2024-25 alleged that there is exponential growth of the Muslim population in the tribal area and a decline in tribal population.
Citing these concerns, he further demanded for implementation of NRC in Jharkhand.
He further alleged that there has been intrusion from the Bangladeshi population in the state because people from Malda, Murshidabad (West Bengal) are ousting local people due to which Hindu villages are getting empty and said that the state police are unable to stop this under the regime of JMM and Congress-led Hemant Soren government.
Nishikant Dubey said, "The state I come from, from Santhal Pargana area - when Santhal Pargana separated from Bihar and became a part of Jharkhand, in 2000 tribals formed 36% of the population in Santhal Pargana. Today, their population is 26%. Where did 10% of the tribals vanish? This House never worries about them, it indulges in vote bank politics. Our State Government - JMM and Congress - are not taking any action over this. Intrusion from Bangladesh is rising in our states. Bangladeshi intruders are marrying tribal women...There are 100 tribal 'mukhiya' in our area but their husbands are Muslims...Riots broke out in Pakur's Taranagar-Ilami and Dagapara, because people from Malda and Murshidabad are ousting our people and Hindu villages are going empty. This is a serious matter."
Challenging to prove him wrong, he said, "I am saying this on record, I am ready to resign if what I am saying is incorrect. Jharkhand Police is unable to do anything...Kishanganj, Araria, Katihar, Malda, Murshidabad should be made a union territory, otherwise Hindus will disappear, and implement NRC. If nothing else, send a Committee of the House there and implement the report of the Law Commission from 2010 that permission is essential for conversion and marriage..."
Congress MP Digvijaya Singh asserted that NRC and Adivasis have no relation.
Speaking to ANI, Congress MP Digvijaya Singh said, "NRC and Adivasis have no relation. NRC wasn't needed as Indian Citizenship Act is there, if you want to provide citizenship to anyone, you can do that."
Meanwhile, TMC MP Saugata Roy, on behalf of TMC opposed this issue and said, "I oppose this issue. Such a communal issue shouldn't have been raised in the Parliament and if it is raised, it should have been put to an end because things are going peacefully and raising this question means destroying the nation. My party and I oppose this." (ANI)
