Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], October 15 (ANI): Leader of Opposition in Himachal Pradesh Assembly Jairam Thakur on Sunday alleged that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu complained of not receiving help instead of being grateful even when the central government extended maximum support to the state during the crisis due to floods.
The former CM claimed that the financial support received by the state has been the "highest in history".
"When disaster hit the state, Himachal received maximum help from the Centre. The amount received in terms of resources and cash was the highest in history. I myself went to Delhi several times and talked to all the prominent leaders including the Home Minister and requested maximum support for Himachal. Cooperation was there, and more will happen in future but the Chief Minister did not even thank the Center for the cooperation, instead it was said that help was not received from the Centre," Jairam Thakur said.
On jobs and promises made by the Congress party before assuming power in the state, the LoP said that the government is taking arbitrary loans every day and is troubling the people of the state by bringing arbitrary rules.
"Before the elections, big leaders of Congress had given ten guarantees, not even one of them was fulfilled, but in ten months they have taken away the jobs of ten thousand people of the state and given a loan of ten thousand crores to the state," he added.
Jairam Thakur said that the employees of Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) are not paid on time and called it a "ridiculous situation".
"The objective of HRTC is not just to earn money but to serve the public. Because it is a means of taking every common man home. This is a ridiculous situation that HRTC employees are being paid salaries after one month. This is wrong. It's practically become a joke," he said.
He further said that the priorities of the government should be decided. "Congress, which had promised to provide jobs to one lakh people every year, took away the employment of ten thousand people as soon as it came to power. Two thousand Covid workers were dismissed without paying six months' salary," the LoP alleged.
On India's stand regarding the Isreal-Hamas conflict, Jairam Thakur said that India will always work on the policy of taking a tough stand against terrorism.
"In the attack on Israel by Hamas, the Prime Minister strongly condemned Hamas and clearly talked about standing with Israel," he said.
He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is adopting a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism. "Under the leadership of PM Modi, India's stature in the world has increased a lot. Today, in every global crisis, the world looks towards India with the aim of resolving the crisis," Thakur added.
The LoP paid a courtesy call to Union Industry and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal late Saturday evening and thanked him for releasing funds under the Industrial Development Scheme for Himachal Pradesh. (ANI)
