High alert issued in Aurangabad, nearby villages post release of flood water from dams

Aurangabad, Aug 4 (ANI): Due to torrential rains, Aurangabad District Collector Dr. Nidhi Pandey has issued a high alert for the nearby villages situated at the bank of the Godavari river after the continuous release of flood water from upstream dams situated in Nashik and Ahmednagar. Pandey issued a high alert for villages situated at the bank of the Godavari river in Vaijapur and Gangapur talukas of the district following the release of water from Nashik district due to the incessant rains. The continuous release of water from upstream dams situated in Nashik and Ahmednagar linked to the Aurangabad district has increased the water level in the biggest dam 'Jayakwadi' known as the life line of Marathwada region. The Aurangabad district administration had evacuated 1,600 peoples residing in Vaijapur and Gangapur tehsils to safer places. The district administration sources said, in view of heavy inflow released from all the 11 upstream dams situated in Nashik and Ahmendnagar district, the inflow of water is about one lakh cusec per second. According to sources of the Command Area Development Authority (CADA) of flood control warned, the water level increased by 5.14 percent. "The latest observation at 1800 hours shows that the level is continuously increasing due to heavy inflow of flood water through Nagamthan dam," said sources adding, ''We are monitoring the situation at every hour.'' The rising level of the Jaykwadi Dam defiantly bring cheers to the peoples of Marathwada region and industries, who were reeling under the acute water shortage from last three years due to scanty rainfall. Report from these areas also stated that crop has been damaged due to entering flood water in these villages. The villages are identified as Dongaon, Babtara, Lakhganga, Purangaon, Nagamthan, Bhabulgaon, Savkheda, Nandurtok and Vajargaon in Vaijapur taluka from where 225 families comprising 1100 people while Amalner, Khibatpur and Nevargaon in Gangapur of 100 families comprising 500 peoples, they said. The flood control rooms are monitoring the flood situation by the respected revenue officials, they added.(ANI)
