Garhwa (Jharkhand) [India], November 11 (ANI): Assam Chief Minister and BJP Jharkhand co-incharge Himanta Biswa Sarma hit out at Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and alleged that for over four years, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) government did not give any benefits to women and just ahead of the Assembly polls they began the Maiyan Samman Yojana by stopping old-age pension
"For 4 years and 7 months women got nothing. Hemant Soren stopped the old-age pension, widow pension and with that money he has now come up with the Maiyan Samman Yojana. We don't work on their formula. We will give Rs 2,500 old-age pension and along with that we will give Rs 2100 to women under the Gogo Didi Yojana," Sarma said on Sunday.
He further said that this is the election to save the cultural identity of Jharkhand state.
"If they win they will divide us. We have to remain united to remain safe. They are bringing intruders into Jharkhand and trying to destroy our identity and culture, " he added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday held a road show in Ranchi and two rallies - one in Bokaro and another in Gumla, where he slammed Congress and its allies for "attempting to create a divide between SCs, STs, and OBCs."
He also said that Congress and its allies "can't see Adivasis on top," and have kept Jharkhand backward.
PM Modi, launching a scathing attack on JMM and Congress alliance, during his rally in Bokaro, said, "BJP-led government is needed in Jharkhand to drive out infiltrators,"
He alleged that both Congress and JMM were attempting to create a divide between SCs, STs, and OBCs saying they enjoyed power by creating divisions. "Everyone needs to stay alert and aware of the major conspiracy by JMM and Congress. They can do anything for power."
"Congress has always been opposed to the unity of ST, SC, and OBC communities. After independence, as long as our Dalit community remained divided, Congress enjoyed power at the Centre based on the policy of 'divide and rule'," he said.
"However, once the communities united, Congress never again managed to form a government with a full majority at the Centre," the Prime Minister said.
PM Modi concluded his Sunday in Jharkhand by holding a three km roadshow in Ranchi, where thousands of people gathered on both side of the road to show their support to Bharatiya Janata Party.
Visuals of the roadshow showed people standing in long lines on either side of the road cheering and waving at the Prime Minister's convoy.
Voting for the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly will be held in two phases on November 13 and 20, with vote counting scheduled for November 23. (ANI)
