Heavy and incessant rainfall wrecks havoc in Nashik
Nashik, Aug. 3 (ANI): Heavy and incessant rainfall since last Friday wrecked havoc in Maharashtra's Nashik district. Nashik's major dams, Gangapur across Godavari River and Darna dam have breached the danger mark following which an alert has been sounded to the residents staying on the banks. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team yesterday moved to Nashik from Sudumbare due to heavy rainfall in the region. As a precautionary measure, all educational institutes were closed for afternoon session. Nashik's Guardian Minister Girish Mahajan, District Collector, Police Commissioner and officials of the Nashik Municipal Corporation are personally monitoring the situation. All the rivers in Raigad are flowing in spate following which an alert has been issued. The fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea. In Konkan's Sindhudurg district, two students have reportedly drowned in Terekhol River. In Mumbai's neighbouring Thane and Palghar districts, 78 villages have been put on alert after two reservoirs, Modak Sagar and Tansa supplying water to Mumbai started overflowing last night. In Ratnagiri district too, contact has been lost with 40 villages after all major rivers in the region started overflowing. Mumbai, on the other hand is facing intermittent rains. The sky is overcast and the weather department has predicted intermittent rain or showers in city and suburbs in the next 48 hours. (ANI)
