New Delhi [India], January 5 (ANI): Aam Aadmi Party leader Priyanka Kakkar on Sunday slammed Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ramesh Bidhuri over his 'objectionable' remarks against Chief Minister Atishi and said that the women of Delhi would ensure a decisive defeat for Bidhuri in the upcoming assembly elections.
She also pointed to the 'concern' of a person with "such attitude for women" becoming an MLA.
Ramesh Bidhuri, who is BJP's candidate against Atishi from the Kalkaji constituency, while addressing a public gathering on Sunday made comments on CM Atishi's surname and family.
"Atishi, who was Marlena, is now Singh. She has even changed her father," Bidhuri said.
Speaking to ANI, Priyanka Kakkar said, "Imagine if he becomes an MLA by mistake and imagine the kind of attitude he will have against women. The public of Delhi has extended support to Arvind Kejriwal a lot. Ramesh Bidhuri will lose by a very big margin from Delhi CM Atishi. The women of Delhi will take revenge."
Earlier, Aam Aadmi Party supremo Arvind Kejriwal also lashed out at Ramesh Bidhuri over his 'controversial' remarks on Chief Minister Atishi Marlena at a public gathering in the national capital.
Reacting to Bidhuri's remarks, Arvind Kejriwal took to social media platform X and said that BJP leaders have crossed "all limits of shamelessness" and are "abusing" Chief Minister Atishi.
He further asserted that the people of Delhi will not tolerate this and give a befitting reply to the BJP in the upcoming assembly polls.
"BJP leaders have crossed all limits of shamelessness. BJP leaders are abusing Delhi Chief Minister Atishi ji. The people of Delhi will not tolerate the insult of a woman Chief Minister. All the women of Delhi will take revenge for this," posted Kejriwal on X.Bidhuri had earlier sparked another row with 'controversial' remarks on Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
AAP MP Sanjay Singh on X shared his video, where he stated that they would make all the roads in Kalkaji like the "cheeks of Priyanka Gandhi" if BJP comes to power.
Bidhuri on Sunday expressed regret over his controversial remarks about Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra amid Congress outrage.
Speaking to ANI, Bidhuri clarified that his comments were made in the context of remarks by Lalu Yadav and emphasized that the Congress party had remained silent when similar statements were made during his tenure as a minister."Such statements have been made before. I have said that in the context of what Lalu Yadav had said. Congress remained silent on that even when he (Lalu Yadav) was a minister in their govt. If anyone is hurt by my remark, I express regret over it and I take my words back," the BJP leader said.
Congress leader Supriya Shrinate strongly criticised the BJP candidate, terming the remark as "shameful," and accused the BJP of fostering an anti-women mindset.
Taking to X, Shrinate said that Bidhuri's statement against the Congress Lok Sabha MP from Wayanad was not only shameful but also showed his "disgusting" mentality towards women.
The assembly elections in Delhi are likely to be held in February 2025.
Congress, which was in power in Delhi for 15 successive years, has performed poorly in the past two assembly polls, failing to win any seat.
AAP won 62 out of the 70 seats in the 2020 assembly elections and BJP secured eight seats. (ANI)
