"He should immediately resign" says AAP MP Gurmeet Hayer after Akal Takht declares Sukhbir Badal 'tankhaiya'

Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], August 31 (ANI): AAP MP from Punjab, Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer called for Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief, Sukhbir Singh Badal's resignation as party head after Shri Akal Takht declared Badal 'tankhaiya' (guilty of religious misconduct).
Hayer said that if Badal has any morality left in him he should immediately resign as SAD chief.
"I would like to say one thing - he has been declared a 'Tankhaiya' by Akal Takht. So, Sukhbir Singh Badal should immediately resign. Shiromani Akali Dal has such a long and proud history and the chief of that party is a 'Tankhaiya'. So, if he has any morality left in him, I think he should resign from his post after this decision of the Akal Takht," he said.
The Akal Takht has declared Shiromani Akali Dal Chief, Sukbir Singh Badal 'tankhaiya'- guilty of religious misconduct, for 'some decisions' during his tenure as deputy chief minister from 2007 to 2017.
The move to declare Badal 'tankahiya' was made by five high priests of the Shri Akal Takht on Friday. Reading the order, Jathedar (chief Priest) of Shri Akal Takht, Giani Raghbir Singh said that Badal, along with his partner Sikh Cabinet Ministers need to submit their written explanations within 15 days.
He said, "A meeting of the Panj Singh Sahibs (five high priests of the Shri Akal Takht) was held at the Shri Akal Takht Sahib Ji in which it was unanimously decided that Sukhbir Singh Badal, as the Deputy Chief Minister of the Punjab Government and President of the Shiromani Akali Dal, took some decisions which have harmed the image of 'Panthak Swaroop'. The situation of Shiromani Akali Dal has deteriorated and Sikh interests have suffered a lot. Therefore, his partner Sikh Cabinet Ministers, who were present in the government from 2007 to 2017, need to submit their written explanations in this regard within 15 days before the Shri Akal Takht."
The Chief Priest also mentioned that he will have to appear before the Takht and seek forgiveness for his "sins".
"Sukhbir Singh Badal, by appearing before the Shri Akal Takht Sahib should seek forgiveness for his sins in the presence of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and the Panj Singh Sahibs. He has been declared a 'Tankhaiya' by Shri Akal Takht Sahib," he said.
Sukhbir Singh Badal posted on his social media platform X and said that he will soon appear before the Akal Takht Sahib. (ANI)
