New Delhi [India], January 4 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party leader Arvinder Singh Lovely expressed gratitude to the top leadership of the party following the announcement of his candidature from the Gandhi Nagar Assembly seat and said that he has "family relations" with the people of Gandhi Nagar."
"I thank the party leadership for having faith in me... Gandhi Nagar is not new to me. I have family relations with the people of Gandhi Nagar. There is no such family whom I don't know or who does not know me personally... The mechanism of administration in Delhi has collapsed in the last 10 years... The problems of Gandhi Nagar are as same as those of the rest of Delhi. These problems will be solved only when the corrupt government is removed from power," Lovely told ANI on Saturday.
Lovely joined the BJP in the presence of Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, BJP General Secretary Vinod Tawde and Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva in May, last year.
Arvinder Singh Lovely resigned from the Delhi Congress chief on April 28, 2024 and wrote a letter to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge citing that he was against the alliance between Congress and AAP in Delhi.
BJP released its first list of 29 candidates for Delhi assembly elections expected to be held in February 2025.
The BJP has fielded National General Secretary Dushyant Gautam from Karol Bagh, Manjinder Singh Sirsa from Rajouri Garden, Kailash Gehlot from Bijwasan and former Congress leader Arvinder Singh Lovely from Gandhi Nagar among others. Parvesh Verma has been fielded from the New Delhi assembly seat against party supremo Arvind Kejriwal.
The assembly elections in Delhi are likely to be held in February 2025.
AAP won 62 out of the 70 seats in the 2020 assembly elections and BJP secured eighth seats. Congress, which was in power in Delhi for 15 successive years, has performed poorly in the past two assembly polls, failing to win any seat. (ANI)
