Have enough evidence to prove irregularities took place in Gujarat RS polls: Chidambaram
New Delhi [India], August 8 (ANI): Congress leader P Chidambaram has said that there is enough evidence to their stand that irregularities happened in the Rajya Sabha polls which took place in Ahmedabad on Tuesday Chidambaram said, "There is enough evidence that the ballot paper were seen by people other than those authorised." "EC must reject these ballot papers as it did in Haryana in June 2016," he added. At the same time, another party leader Anand Sharma said, "One of our MLAs had mistakenly showed his vote in Haryana and his vote was rejected, same was done in Gujarat, so it should be rejected." The Congress has accused that two of its MLAs showed their votes to "unauthorised persons". These MLAs allegedly showed their votes to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah and Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani. While talking to the media, Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala, "The INC today went to ECI as two legislators Bhola Bhai Gohil and Raghav ji Bhai Patel had shown their votes not to the authorised person but to BJP national president Amit Shah, Smriti Irani and to the independent candidate Balwant Singh Rajput. The vote is liable to be rejected as per the verdict of the Supreme Court and under the Section 39 of the Conduct of Election Rules." He further said that the party has requested the Election Commission to ensure their votes should not be counted and should be rejected, while adding that the ECI has assured that they will examine the entire matter. However, Congress candidate Ahmed Patel has asserted that his party had filed their concerned with the returning officer but their plea was shunned. "Complaint was filed immediately but returning officer didn't do anything," said Patel. However Patel said that despite of all the tactics played against him, he is still confidant of winning. (ANI)
