Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], January 27 (ANI): After Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan staged a protest on Saturday against SFI workers, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the Governor should learn that there can be protests against people in power, adding that he wonders whether "India has ever seen a person holding a high position in the country behave like this".
"There is a decorum that people in power should react to those protests. One question he asked was whether a protest against CM was seen. I have travelled many times. Have I ever gotten down to check what action the police are taking?" Kerala CM said.
The Kerala CM further stated that one thing everybody should understand is that nobody is above the law.
"He is the head of the state. He is the most protected person. Is he saying that protection is not required? In Kerala, few people have CRPF protection. They are all RSS workers. Will the CRPF rule directly in Kerala? What does he think? Can CRPF register a case? Can CRPF act the way he wants? There are laws in this country. Is it different for Kerala? One thing everybody should understand is that nobody is above the law," he said.
"Protesters are tying banners and he asks to remove them. Has all this ever been seen before? Kerala is not the only place where protests take place. Has Kerala or the rest of India ever seen a person holding a high position behaving like this?" the CM added.
On the Kerala Governor reading just the end part of his address in the Assembly, the Kerala CM said, "Technically, he must read the whole address so it is an insult to the State and Constitution. He has no time to read the policy address but has one and a half hours to sit in protest on the roadside. He once said Kerala police are the best. Aren't they now?"
A visibly infuriated Kerala Governor, Arif Mohammed Khan, staged a protest on the wayside at Nilamel in Kollam, alleging police inaction after Student Federation of India (SFI) workers waved black flags at his motorcade.
The governor, who was on his way to attend a function, stepped out of his car and rushed towards the protestors, loudly chastising the activists. He also expressed his ire at policemen for not arresting the SFI workers who showed black flags and staged a protest against him.
Later SFI workers were arrested and remanded. (ANI)
