Sirsa (Haryana) [India], September 7 (ANI): Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) candidate from the Dabwali assembly constituency, Digvijay Chautala congratulated wrestler Vinesh Phogat for entering politics and making a new beginning.
Digvijay Chautala said, "Vinesh is just like my sister. She has struggled a lot for the country. Twice she came very close to winning an Olympic medal. Once she was injured and this time she got trapped in a controversy. We welcome her in politics and congratulate her for a new beginning and hope she serves the people of Haryana."
He further expressed confidence that JJP would be winning from the Dabwali assembly constituency.
He said, "In the second round of campaigning huge gatherings were addressed. People from every walk of life have decided to vote for JJP. Even in the late-night people are attending the campaign."
He further added that if former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala from Indian National Lok Dal filed his nomination then he would take back his candidature as a mark of respect.
Earlier the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) and Aazad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) alliance issued a list of 19 candidates for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections and fielded Dushyant Chautala from Uchana and Digvijay Chautala from Dabwali.
The JJP has released the list of 15 candidates, while ASP named four candidates.JJP leader Dushyant Chautala will contest the elections from Uchana, while Digvijay Chautala will fight from Dabwali.
JJP and Chandra Shekhar Azad's Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) have allied for the upcoming Haryana Assembly polls.
The alliance will contest all 90 Assembly constituencies in Haryana, with JJP competing on 70 seats and ASP on 20.
The Congress on Friday released its first list of 31 candidates for Haryana assembly elections and fielded former wrestler Vinesh Phogat from Julana.
In a big boost to Congress, Olympian wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat joined the Congress earlier in the day.
Within hours of his joining the party, Bajrang Punia was appointed working president of All India Kisan Congress.
Punia won bronze at the Tokyo Olympics, while Vinesh Phogat became the first woman wrestler to reach the Olympics final. Phogat announced her retirement from wrestling a short while after she was disqualified from the Paris Olympic Games after being found overweight by about 100 gm in her 50-kg category weigh-in ahead of the gold medal match.
The voting to the 90-member legislative assembly in Haryana will be held on October 5 and the last date for filing nominations is September 12. The counting of votes will be held on October 8.
In the 2019 elections, the BJP, with 40 seats in the 90-member assembly, formed a coalition government with the JJP, which had won 10 seats, while the Congress secured 31 seats. Earlier this year, the BJP-JJP alliance was dissolved. (ANI)
