Gurugram traffic woes: Manohar Lal Khattar to visit affected areas on Monday
Chandigarh, July 30 (ANI): Putting the blame on the previous government for having a flawed drainage plan, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who is under fire over the massive traffic jams in Gurugram following heavy rains, said here on Saturday that he will personally visit the affected areas to take stock of the situation. "Badshahpur drain has been overflowing since it has been raining heavily. Secondly construction work was on progress near Huda Chowk, which led to the traffic jam on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway," said Khattar. Khattar said he will be visiting the affected areas on Monday to examine the situation in Gurugram and come up with a solution to avoid the monster traffic jam like that on Thursday. When questioned about the poor drainage system in the city he said "We have send people to find out the situation. The capacity of Badshahpur drain has reduced and last year the rainfall was less. This year it is heavily raining and the drainage system was not able to drain out so much of water." He also said the previous government drainage plan was not stellar, adding that his team will try to find a solution to the problem. Following a heavy downpour leading to massive traffic chaos in Gurugram over the past two days, the city police today said they have made detailed plans to avert a similar situation in the future. According to sources, the police force has been deployed in full strength 24*7 at 14 crucial points, mainly on the NH8 and NH-248A. "At each point, inspector rank officer have been deployed along with police personnel as per requirement of each spot," said the source. Meanwhile, the Haryana Government had directed the Chief Administrator of Haryana Urban Development Authority and the Director of the Local Bodies Department to visit Gurgaon to expedite the road clearance effort. Moreover, Gurugram's main drainage, Badshahpur drain, is also close to the Hero Honda Chowk, and due to excessive rain it inundated the chowk and nearby localities.(ANI)
