Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], September 3 (ANI): Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Union Minister and state BJP chief CR Paatil on Tuesday renewed their party membership at a party event here.
They renewed their membership a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the party's nationwide membership drive in the national capital.
Speaking on the occasion, Paatil, who is Union Water Resources Minister, said BJP is the only party which goes for membership drive after six years. He said BJP got about 1.88 crore votes in Gujarat in the Lok Sabha polls and the state unit will aim to make two crore members. Paatil said elections can be won only if the organisation is strong.
In his remarks, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said that work has to be done at speed to reach the target of two crore members.
PM Modi on Monday launched the Bharatiya Janata Party's 2024 membership drive 'Sanghatan Parva, Sadasyata Abhiyan 2024' by renewing his membership and urged party workers to make special efforts to connect with the youth.
"The people who are 18-20 years old today have not read the newspapers whose headline used to be that today there has been a scam of so many lakhs, today there has been a scam of so many crores... the children who are 18-20 years old today have not read this. They do not know what the situation was 10-11 years ago, they have seen a new Hindustan and for this their dreams also start from there, and then our responsibility increases. Isn't it our responsibility to target the entire generation of 18-25 years old and connect them with BJP through a plan so that they too come to know how many bad days their parents had seen," PM Modi said.
He said that the membership drive and the organisational structure that will be established during this period will coincide with the implementation of 33 per cent reservation in Legislative Assemblies and Parliament.
"If this 33 per cent reservation for women is to be introduced during this time, then in my membership drive, can we include all those individuals who can help my party ensure that the maximum number of women are elected as MLAs and MPs, thus making this crucial decision a success?" he asked."This very membership drive isn't just a ritual. It's an expansion of our family...It isn't a game of numbers. It doesn't matter the numbers we achieve. This membership drive is an ideological and emotional movement," he added. (ANI)
