Chandigarh [India], June 5 (ANI): After securing victory against BJP's Sanjay Tandon, Chandigarh's Congress candidate Manish Tewari claimed that the 18th look Sabha elections witnessed the ground issues of inflation, unemployment, and the concern that people had towards the Constitution.
Addressing the press conference in Chandigarh on Wednesday, the former Union Minister said, "I would like to thank all the INDIA alliance partners--Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, Samajwadi Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal... The results are because of their hard work, and passion...".
Taking a jibe at the BJP, Tewari asserted, "The way results were calculated and the way the slogan of 'Abki baar, 400 paar' was publicised is different from the reality".
He added further, "The ground issues of inflation, unemployment, Agniveer scheme, the concern people had towards the Constitution, all these were seen in the elections."
While wrapping up his press conference, Tewari asserted that the election campaigns witnessed a personalised element and were full of sarcasm against each other. But I would like to say there is no malice, no enmity in my heart. And there are no such feelings of saying any bad things about our rivals... Sanjay Tandon had put up a good fight and I would like to congratulate him."
The Congress leader also took to his official X handle and posted, "I thank the people of Chandigarh for reposing their faith in me. I will endeavour to live up to your expectations. I thank all the INDIA alliance workers and leaders for their ceaseless efforts that made this victory possible."
On his rival, Tewari said, "To my worthy opponent Sanjay Tandon, we fought an acrimonious election but I have no bitterness in my heart. Let us make a new beginning and work together for the prosperity of Chandigarh."
Notably, Manish Tewari secured victory against Sanjay Tandon with 2,504 votes. Tewari garnered 2,16,657 votes while Tandon received 2,14,153 votes.
Declaration of results of the 18th Lok Sabha election in the 543-member Parliament saw the BJP-led NDA winning 294 seats and the INDIA bloc bagging 234 seats. A party or coalition requires a simple majority of 272 seats to form the government. (ANI)
