Greenfield Airport Land Affected Peoples warns Arunachal Govt. of legal action, demands immediate payment
Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh) [India], Dec 12 (ANI): Representatives of the Greenfield Airport Land Affected Peoples Forum of Hollongi (GALAPFH) on Monday warned the Arunachal Pradesh government of legal consequences if plans are afoot to move the greenfield airport from Hollongi to Banderdewa are true. The GALAPFH demanded immediate compensation to landowners by the state government for causing a loss for a period of five years amounting to Rs 190.00 crore. "If at all government wants to shift the airport again, they should first pay for lost damage period of five years , If the government fails to fulfil the demands, GALAPFH will go for series of democratic movement and legal options," said GALAPFH members at a conference held at the Press Club in state capital Itanagar. It is almost 10 years since the first inspection of Greenfield Airport (GFA) site in Itanagar and the ordeal of where to build the Airport continues till today. GFA project has been often believed to be manipulated and hived off by the political class, Bureaucrats, legal notices and the land affected people. Lately a new technical team from Airport Authority of India (AAI) made an unannounced aerial survey of Hollongi and Banderdewa site. The forum alleged that the state government is deliberately attempting to shift the proposed Green Field Airport from Hollongi, thus prolonging the airport project in Itanagar. The proposed Greenfield Airport at Hollongi has been at the centre of controversy ever since the Centre decided to shift it from Banderdewa (Karsingsa) to Hollongi. Then Governor J P Rajkhowa allegedly had written to Prime Minister's Office favoring Lilabari airport's (Assam) upgrade instead building an airport at Hollongi. (ANI)
