Govt.'s stand is clear on Triple Talaq issue: Rajnath Singh
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], Apr. 12 (ANI): Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has said that the government stands clear on the issue of triple talaq and justice will be provided to every woman. "As far as Triple Talaq issue is concerned the government's sand is very clear on it. I believe every woman should get justice be it any caste or religion," he said. He added that the government has also filed an affidavit in this issue in the Supreme Court. "I have heard that even in Quran it is not mentioned anywhere about Triple Talaq. So, we will try to attain justice in this," the Union Minister said. Meanwhile, All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) vice-president Kalbe Sadiq has requested the government to not interfere in the matter of Triple Talaq, adding that the Muslim board would eradicate this evil themselves. "The Muslim Personal Board has decided that they will eradicate this problem from the society itself. We request the government to not to interfere in this matter," said Sadiq. Sadiq said that the Muslim Community provided talaq in such a way that the girl lives respectfully in the society, adding that it just needs some time to take a decision on the issue. The Allahabad High Court had in December 2016 held that the practice of triple talaq is 'cruel' and raised an issue that whether the Muslim Personal Law could be amended to provide relief to the Muslim women. The High Court also stated that the form of 'instant divorce' is 'most demeaning'. The apex court is to hear multiple pleas challenging the validity of triple talaq, 'nikah halala' and polygamy practices among Muslims community on May 11 by a Constitution bench during the summer vacation. Earlier on March 27, the AIMPLB told the apex court that the pleas challenging such practices among Muslims were not maintainable as the issues fell outside the realm of judiciary. (ANI)
