Govt. launches biggest Leprosy case detection campaign
New Delhi [India], Sept. 6 (ANI): The Central Government on Tuesday launched the biggest Leprosy case detection campaign in the country. The Health Ministry, in a release, said, 32 crore people, across 19 states and union territories, will be screened under the campaign. The objective is to detect the disease early so that those affected can be saved from physical deformity. The ministry said, the districts, having a prevalence rate of more than one case per 10,000 population in the last three years, have been included in the campaign. Around three lakh teams will visit every house in their allotted area and screen all the family members for leprosy. To eradicate Leprosy from the country, Union Health Minister JP Nadda yesterday reviewed the National Leprosy Eradication Programme. The states and UTs to be covered in this campaign include Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana, Maharashtra, Nagaland, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Lakshadweep. During the campaign, around 65,000 suspected cases were identified out of which nearly 4,000 were later confirmed. (ANI)
