Govt. identifies 1.36 crore non-filers under NMS
New Delhi, Aug 9 (ANI): The government has identified 1.36 crore non-filers with potential tax liability under the Non-Filers Monitoring System (NMS). Replying to a question in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Finance Santosh Kumar Gangwar said the total number of taxpayers of income tax in the country for the last financial year is over five crore 24 lakh. Gangwar said the revenue department has decided to write letters to around 2 lakh 59 thousand tax payers whose appeals were pending as on February 29 this year for settling their tax related disputes. Asked whether the government has noted that some companies are involved in some foreign exchange frauds recently, the Minister replied in affirmation. (ANI)
