New Delhi [India], August 4 (ANI): Hailing the Supreme Court for staying the conviction of Rahul Gandhi in a defamation case over ‘Modi Surname’ remark, Senior Congress leader Dr Ajoy Kumar said that the truth has won as the BJP tried to harass an "innocent person".
He also equated Rahul Gandhi to Mahatma Gandhi, saying "Goons have always harassed the good and pure people throughout history. Mahatma Gandhi was harassed, Bhagwan Harishchandra was harassed."
Ajoy Kumar said, "Truth has won. They (the BJP) tried to harass an innocent person."
Praising Rahul Gandhi's reaction after getting disqualified from Parliament, he said, "Look at the decent way in which Rahul Gandhi acted. Just when his membership was cancelled, he vacated his bungalow."
Attacking the BJP, Ajoy Kumar said, "Modi and Amit Shah hold PHDs in telling lies. Look at the case- the speech was made in Karnataka, he is an MP from Kerala, the case was registered in Gujarat and he was convicted immediately."
Speaking to ANI, Ajoy Kumar said, "Goons have always harassed the good and pure people throughout history. Mahatma Gandhi was harassed, Bhagwan Harishchandra was harassed, Lord Ram was harassed by Ravan. But PM Modi will get justice in this life itself, we have faith in that."
Ajoy Kumar who is the All India Congress Committee Incharge of Sikkim, Tripura and Nagaland was reacting to the Supreme Court's order on Rahul Gandhi staying his conviction in the criminal defamation case over the 'Modi surname' remark.
On Rahul Gandhi's reinstating at an MP, the senior Congress leader said, "When Rahul Gandhi will be back in Parliament, Modiji will get a shock...I don't think he will come to Parliament again because Rahul ji is coming back."
Speaking on whether Rahul Gandhi will be participating in the no-confidence motion, he said that the BJP is evil and can do anything.
"Supreme Court has given its order. This has an immediate effect. But these people are evil, they can do anything. They have the habit of harassing. No problem, we will bear them," he said.
Ajoy Kumar said that the INDIA alliance will get a fresh boost with Rahul Gandhi coming back to the parliament. "Other than the no-confidence motion, the discussion will be held on Manipur in Parliament, the country will see that the INDIA alliance has got a fresh boost," he said.
In a relief to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the Supreme Court, in an interim order on Friday, stayed his conviction in the criminal defamation case over the 'Modi surname' remark.
The apex court issued notices to the Gujarat government and the complainant in July on an appeal of the Congress leader challenging the Gujarat High Court order.
The Gujarat HC had in its order declined to stay his conviction in the criminal defamation case in which Rahul Gandhi was sentenced to two years in jail by the Surat court over the 'Modi surname' remark.
After his conviction in the case, Gandhi was disqualified as MP from Kerala’s Wayanad on March 24. Earlier in March, a magisterial court convicted Rahul Gandhi for his ‘Modi’ surname remarks ahead of the 2019 national polls. (ANI)
