Darjeeling, (West Bengal), [India], Sept 28 (ANI): Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) on Wednesday staged protest and called for a 12-hour shut down in the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) area against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's claim that Rs. 4,000 crore had been allocated to the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration. More than 250 people, who were trying to forcefully enforce a shutdown, have been detained in three subdivisions, informed Darjeeling District Magistrate. Meanwhile, situation remains peaceful but the administration has been marked on alert. The Calcutta High Court also yesterday directed the West Bengal government to ensure that life is not disrupted in the hills. A division bench presided by Chief Justice G C Gupta observed that the court can start a suo motu contempt proceeding against GJM as bandhs are illegal and unconstitutional and against existing judgements of the Supreme Court and different high courts. According to reports, while issuing the strike threat, GJM president Bimal Gurung said the state government was forcing GJM to go on the strike. (ANI)
