Ghaziabad Police says will arrest IPL betting racket kingpin soon

Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh) [India], May 13 (ANI): Ghaziabad Superintendent of Police Akash Tomar said Saturday that the Indian Premier League (IPL) betting racket kingpin, who operates from New Delhi, would be arrested soon. "We have come to know that the head of these bookies is located in Delhi. We are trying to investigate the matter. We will try to arrest the main accused in this case and soon will get success," said Tomar in a press briefing here. "We were expecting the senior bookie to come and collect the payment, but he didn't come. All operations are carried out by their juniors; the head keeps on changing his location to be safe," he said. Earlier in the day, six more bookies were arrested with Rs 70,000 from Ghaziabad in connection with the IPL betting racket. The police caught the six bookies red-handed along with Rs 70,000, seven Android phones, one Maruti Swift car, one Passion Pro motorcycle from the Link road area of Ghaziabad. On Thursday, three bookies namely, Ramesh Shah, Vikas Chauhan and Ramesh were caught along with cash worth Rs. 4, 40,000, two mobiles and a diary from Landmark Hotel in Kanpur. The arrested accused had come ahead of the IPL clash to be played between Delhi Daredevils and Gujarat Lions at Kanpur's Green Park Stadium . The teams were staying at the Landmark Hotel and the bookies were betting from this hotel only. On the same day, the Delhi Police had also busted an IPL betting racket in the Shahdara area of East Delhi and arrested six people. Police recovered two laptops, 22 mobile phones and LCDs.(ANI)
