Get real on border incursions: Congress to Amit Shah
New Delhi [India], Nov 2 (ANI): Questioning Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah's claim of the country's borders being far more secure under the NDA government than under the UPA, the Congress party said the BJP is out of touch with ground reality. "The defence forces are extremely active and have retaliated in a proper manner. I am really surprised that Amit Shah said that the borders were safe during the NDA period, because, the kind of activities that have been happening and the subsequent incursions that have been happening, clearly indicates that the BJP has been out of touch with ground reality," Congress spokesperson Tom Vadakkan said. "Our borders have not been so volatile, whether it is the BJP government under Vajpayee or the UPA. This is very surprising indeed. Elections come and elections go, but a statement like this doesn't cut much ice with the public," he added. Shah on Tuesday said "if anyone attempts to tamper with the boundary, a befitting reply will be given". Speaking at Amritsar on the 50th anniversary of the Punjabi Subah Celebrations, Shah said: "The biggest achievement is that this government has secured the boundary of the country. There was an era in this country (when) there was a government of the UPA for 10 years. This was the government of Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi and the Gandhi family. The situation then was that anyone could come, do chhedkhani (tampering) with the boundary of the country, causing great insult." "But things have changed in the last two-and-a-half years. Now the world has understood that they cannot tamper with the boundary of Hindustan. If anyone attempts to tamper with the boundary, a befitting reply will be given," he said. (ANI)
