Ganga cleaning: NGT warns officials from 'passing buck', says act would attract fine
New Delhi [India], Mar. 8 (ANI): The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Wednesday warned the officials from various government departments of 'strict consequences' if the officials 'pass the buck on others' in matter related to cleaning Ganga River. NGT chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar said that any such act in future will henceforth allow a penalty of Rs 50,000 on officials. The reaction came after a scientist appearing for the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) failed to answer its query as to what was the minimum flow required in the river Ganga. Meanwhile, the green court cancelled bailable warrant issued against Kanpur municipal commissioner after his deputy appeared before the court. The bench, however, directed the official to make sure that counsel and concerned officials remain present before the court during hearing of the matter.(ANI)
