Freedom of speech, right to disagree under threat: Congress
New Delhi[India], Dec. 1(ANI): After the official accounts of Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and Indian National Congress twitter handles got hacked, the grand old party on Thursday said that free speech and right to disagree are under threat and shows extremity of intolerance. The Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala questioned the cyber security of the nation and also took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ambitious Digital India project. "Free speech and right to disagree are under attack by lumpen Fascists in this country. Such vulgar and despotic attempts reflect the extremity of intolerance and culture that resorts to abuse when answerless. Congress party has always dealt with such animosity and such hatred with compassion and tolerance," he said. "It exposes the weaknesses of the cyber security and also digital payments network in India. Is this the real truth of digital India? This is something which Modiji needs to ponder over," he added. A day after Rahul Gandhi's hacked Twitter handle put out offensive and homophobic posts on Wednesday evening, the Congress party's account has also been hacked and abusive tweets have been posted on Thursday morning. The matter of the Congress vice-president's hacked account was taken to cyber cell on Thursday. The Congress has, meanwhile, filed a complaint with the cyber cell of Delhi Police on the hacking of Gandhi's account. Delhi Police has initiated the probe and has written to the management of the social media site seeking necessary details.(ANI)
