Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], March 22 (ANI): Bharat Rashtra Samithi chief and former Chief Minister of Telangana K Chandrashekhar Rao called Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's arrest a "dark day" in Indian democracy.
Rao further alleged that the recent arrests of Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren and BRS MLA K Kavitha prove that the BJP wants to make the opposition non-existent.
"The arrest of Aam Aadmi Party chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is a dark day in the history of democracy of the country," said a press statement by KCR.
"The recent arrests of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and BRS MLC K Kavitha prove that the ruling BJP at the Center is acting with the sole intention of making the opposition non-existent," added the statement.
Rao also accused centre of using the Enforcement Directorate, Central Bureau of Investigation and Income Tax against opposition.
"For this, the central government is using ED, CBI, IT and other central investigation agencies. BRS strongly condemns the actions of the BJP government, which is turning out to be an axe on democracy," read the statement.
"Kejriwal's arrest is politically motivated and we demand the immediate withdrawal of illegal cases and the immediate release of those arrested," it added.
Meanwhile, The Rouse Avenue Court on Friday sent Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to ED custody till March 28. The agency had sought 10 days of remand.
Kejriwal was arrested by the ED in the excise policy case on Thursday after the Delhi High Court refused interim protection to him from coercive action in connection with the excise policy case. The case pertains to alleged irregularities and money laundering in framing and implementing the Delhi excise policy case 2022, which was later scrapped. (ANI)
