For me DGMO's statement on surgical strikes is 'the truth': Tharoor

New Delhi [India], Oct 5 (ANI): Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Wednesday day affirmatively said that for him Director General Military Operations (DGMO) Lt. General Ranbir Singh's statement regarding the surgical strikes conducted across the LoC is the truth and, therefore, there is no point of arguing over the issue. Tharoor said that the army should be the judge and decide over the fact that what amount of information should be divulged. "I personally have never doubted the word of our military and to my mind when the Director General Military Operations (DGMO) says something for me, it is the truth. I don't need to argue about that. But because Pakistan has conducted propaganda raising the questions whether the strikes at all happened, some have suggested that we should provide proof," said Tharoor. Tharoor further suggested that the Indian Army could provide coordinates of the places which it struck as it will serve the purpose without putting national security at stake. "What I think we can do is provide the coordinates of the places or some of the places that we struck because obviously the Pakistani know where they were hit, so we are not providing information that they don't have," he said. "Whereas releasing videos could reveal things we don't want to reveal to the enemy, including our modus operandi, equipment carried out by our soldiers as these things can make us compromise on our national security. So my view is let the army be the judge and decide how much we can reveal but let us not tell Pakistani's more than they already know that where they were struck and how badly they were struck," he added. Minister of State for Home Affairs Hansraj Ahir earlier today said the army has handed over video clips of the cross Line of Control (LoC) operation to the government as per the laid down procedure. Ahir said there is a process for putting such issues in perspective which was duly followed by the army as well as the government. "The laid down procedure has been followed. The DGMO briefed about the surgical strikes. It was not the Defence Minister nor the Prime Minister and not the Home Minister. It was the DGMO, who briefed the media," he said "There was a time when written documents were submitted. Now, the times have changed. Now, the clips are given and the clips have been given," he told the media here. The Minister of State for Home's statement came amidst the growing chorus for showing proof of the army's surgical strikes on terror launch pads in PoK. A political slugfest over surgical strikes on terror launch pads across the LoC broke out on Tuesday with Mumbai Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam calling it "fake" and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal asking the government to release the proof of the surgical strikes to counter the Pakistani propaganda against the operation. The ruling BJP at the Centre, however, lashed out at the opposition for demeaning the morale of the armed forces by demanding proof of the predawn September 29 surgical strikes. (ANI)
