"Fake names, dead, shifted voters, or infiltrators are Mamata Banerjee's vote bank": Sukanta Majumdar slams TMC over SIR opposition

Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar on Saturday charged that the Trinamool Congress's fierce opposition to the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exposes the party's dependence on "fake names, dead voters, shifted voters and infiltrators" as its vote bank.

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], October 18 (ANI): Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar on Saturday charged that the Trinamool Congress's fierce opposition to the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exposes the party's dependence on "fake names, dead voters, shifted voters and infiltrators" as its vote bank.
Majumdar further added that the EC told the Supreme Court that SIR will be implemented nationwide and questioned why Mamata Banerjee is "so vigorously opposing" the exercise.

"The Election Commission has already mentioned in the Supreme Court, in a PIL, that they will run SIR throughout the country. So there are several political parties that are opposing SIR and are against us. In a democracy, opposition is well accepted. However, the kind of derogatory and threatening words used by Mamata Banerjee and her party are really unique. My question is, why is Mamata Banerjee so vigorously opposing the SIR? That means the fake names, dead voters or the shifted voters or the infiltrators, those are the vote bank of Mamata Banerjee," he told ANI.
Majumdar added, "All the MPs, MLAs of TMC leadership are threatening us that they will shed blood... I want to see how many bullets are there with the TMC to penetrate Sukanta Majumdar's chest."
Majumdar referred to a threat from TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee and accepted the challenge to visit Serampore. He said,"Yesterday, Kalyan Banerjee issued a statement in which he challenged me to come to Serampore, and he threatened me that he and his party workers won't allow me to return to my home, my residence in Kolkata. So I have taken that challenge. Several freedom fighters fought for the independence of this country. We did not have that fortune."
Earlier, West Bengal police detained Youth Congress members during their protest march to the state Election Commission regarding the SIR process, which is likely to commence in November.
Mamata Banerjee has opposed the EC's decision to conduct a nationwide SIR of electoral rolls, warning the BJP to "not play with fire."
"I warned the BJP, don't play with fire. Be prepared for public outrage. People of Bengal never believe you. I heard that the Union Home Minister said in a party meeting that we will drop many names; who is he to drop them? Today, his government is there, but tomorrow it will not be there," the Chief Minister said. (ANI)
