Expression of views must be done only in national interest: Janardan Dwivedi
New Delhi [India], Feb. 28 (ANI): Congress leader Janardan Dwivedi on Tuesday said expression of views must be restricted if it goes against national interest. "It not about expressing one's views, it must be viewed on various aspects. Various questions are emerging, Questions are being raised about freedom of expression, on education, questions are being raised against a generation's views and cultures, questions are emerging as to what is against the nation and what is not. It's not about freedom of speech, it's about going against the nation," Dwivedi told ANI in reference to the Gurmehar Kaur episode. He said the atmosphere has become vitiated where the issues are deliberately being constructed to reap political benefits. "Nowadays issues are not taken up to resolve, they are constructed, and separate policies are made to handle those issues for political gain. Similarly, opposition is also created to those expressing their views," Dwivedi told in an exclusive conversation with ANI. Dwivedi said the responsibility falls on everyone to stop a person whose views are against the nation. "Every person who understands will support this. Hence the responsibility falls on everyone to stop something which is against nation's interest," he said. Meanwhile, a protest march is being held by students from various colleges of Delhi University as well as students from the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) against the ABVP over the scuffle that took place in Ramjas College. This came a day after the ABVP-backed Delhi University Students' Union held a 'Tiranga March' from Ramjas College to Arts Faculty in North Campus. Kaur was given police protection yesterday after she was trolled with tweets threatening rape over her Facebook post against Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). On Tuesday, the Delhi Police an FIR against unknown persons in connection with the rape threats issued to Kaur. The FIR was registered under Sections 354-A and 506 of the Indian Penal Code ( IPC) and 67 IT Act. This came after Delhi Commission of Women ( DCW) chief Swati Maliwal issued a notice to the Delhi Police, asking them to provide details regarding the manhandling of women protesters. Gurmehar, who alleged rape threats over her social media campaign, pulled out of a march today against the campus violence. In a series of tweets, the 20-year-old also appealed to others to join the "Save DU" march at the Delhi University campus by students and teachers in large numbers. Gurmehar was given police protection yesterday after she was trolled with tweets threatening rape over her Facebook post against the Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP). Clashes erupted last week after the ABVP students allegedly manhandled and thrashed students protesting the cancellation of an event at Ramjas College at which controversial JNU student Umar Khalid was scheduled to speak.
