Ex KFA employee appeals to UK court- declare Mallya guilty

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], May 9 (ANI): A former employee of Kingfisher Airlines on Tuesday appealed to courts in Britain to declare Businessman Vijay Mallya guilty. "After the Supreme Court's directions now even the UK government should announce the judgment against Vijay Mallya," former Kingfisher Airlines employee Neetu Shukla told ANI. Expressing her delight over the apex court's decision, she said, "Even though it seems the government is not fighting for the common man but at least the Supreme Court has acted". She further asserted that being a member of parliament; he should uphold the directive of the apex court and, if he evades this as well, it will be an extreme insult of the Indian judicial system. The apex court on Tuesday found Vijay guilty of contempt of court and asked him to make a personal appearance in court on July 10. The apex court was hearing a plea by a consortium of banks, which moved the apex court after Mallya received USD 40 million from British firm Diageo Plc in February 2016 and allegedly transferred the money to his children, instead of repaying loans that he owes to the banks. The absconding businessman was arrested by Scotland Yard last month for fraud, which triggered his extradition process. Mallya is out on bail after assuring the court about abiding all conditions related to extradition proceedings, including surrendering his passport. Despite the extradition treaty signed in 1992 between India and the UK, only one successful extradition has taken place, that of Samirbhai Vinubhai Patel, who was sent back to India in October 2016 to face trial for his involvement in the post-Godhra riots of 2002. Last month, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) informed that Mallya's extradition is in progress. Mallya, reportedly owes more than Rs 9,000 crore to various banks. He fled India in March 2016.
