EVM tampering row: BJP advices Mayawati to visit hospital, take a break
New Delhi [India], Mar. 16 (ANI): With Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati putting the onus on the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) for their party's dismal show in the recent assembly polls, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Keshav Prasad Maurya on Thursday advised Mayawati to visit a hospital rather than going to court. "I don't care if Mayawati goes to court, but before that she should visit a hospital for a thorough check up and get herself treated well, because she needs a break and also some sleep," Maurya told ANI. Maurya further stated that she must accept the defeat gracefully and not indulge in blame games. "In the year 2007, when the EVM results votes in her favour she didn't object and called it 'good luck' but now when it's not in her favour, she feels that EVM has not been functioning properly. This is nonsense.and I don't believe what she says. She is going crazy after the results and needs some rest now so the best place is a hospital. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has done so much for the country and its people, truly deserved this win and I stand by him for this," said Maurya. Yesterday, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also alleged that the EVMs were tampered during the recently conducted assembly polls in the five states which ultimately resulted in his party's dismal show especially in Punjab. Addressing a press conference, AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal suggested that the Election Commission needs to relook at the use of EVMs in the electoral process until faith is restored in it. "Many said that there is anger against the Akalis and AAP is sweeping polls, still AAP got 25 percent votes and SAD got 31 percent votes. How is it possible? Even in Malwa, we got thrashed and Congress won there. How is it possible?" Kejriwal asked. "We conducted a survey of various electoral booths in Punjab. For example, in booth number 103 in Sujanpur, village Gosaipur, we got only two votes. We had five volunteers there and they have 27 family members who are even ready to take oath they had voted. So, where have their votes gone? There are various other booths as well where we have got two or three votes only," he added. However, the Election Commission had asserted that there is "no merit" to the BSP's complaints over the EVM possibly being tampered with. (ANI)
