New Delhi [India], September 3 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta took a veiled jibe at the Opposition and asked the public to stand up against the alleged abuses hurled at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his mother.
Addressing the ISKCON Creators Summit 2025 on Tuesday, CM Rekha Gupta said that some battles have to be fought against the "evil" in society.
She said, "Not every battle is fought by going to the border. Some battles have to be fought in the midst of evil in society. When the late mother of the Prime Minister of the country is abused in a political rally, shouldn't we stand up? Shouldn't we respond to that?"
Slamming the Opposition parties, she questioned if politics has stooped to a level where one can abuse someone's mother for their interest.
"Has politics stooped to such an extent that for our own interest, for our own profit, we can even abuse someone's late mother? Shouldn't we raise our voice? When we see any evil in society, when something wrong is happening or is seen somewhere, then who has the responsibility to say something?" Rekha Gupta said.
Earlier, former Union Minister Smriti Irani took a jibe against the Opposition for alleged derogatory remarks hurled at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during a public meeting in Bihar.
Smriti Irani said that the alleged remark "outrages the entire country" as PM Modi's mother had no connection to politics and struggled in poverty.
In a video message on Tuesday, the BJP leader said, "The insult of PM Modi's late mother by opposition leaders on a political platform in Bihar is something that outrages the entire country. That mother had no connection with politics, that mother who struggled in poverty for her family to protect them, that mother who is no longer among us--insulting such a mother causes pain to us all."
"I believe that the mothers and sisters of the country and Bihar will give a befitting reply to the opposition for this insult," Irani added.
The row was sparked when an alleged video showed a man hurling abusive remarks against PM Modi during the Opposition's public meeting in Bihar.
Responding to which, PM Modi on Tuesday took an indirect jibe at the INDIA bloc leaders Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav, calling them "namdaars", people born with a silver spoon who, he said, cannot understand the struggles of poor mothers or the suffering and pain of their children, as for them, "power" is "inheritance".
Referring to alleged derogatory remarks made during the 'Voter Adhikar Yatra', PM Modi said, "The struggles (Tapasya) of a poor mother, the suffering of her son--these young princes born into royal families cannot understand. These 'naamdaar' people were born with a silver spoon in their mouths. The power of the country and Bihar seems like an inheritance of their family to them." (ANI)
