Patna (Bihar) [India], August 24 (ANI): RJD leader Manoj Jha on Sunday accused Union Minister Kiren Rijiju of misleading the public after the Parliamentary Affairs Minister's recent statement that took aim at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
Jha also alleged that the authority of the central government's was weakening.
"Who is he fooling?... Everything is under the control of Prime Minister Modi, not a single agency has courage to act, even when they know the truth..Are you unaware of the Supreme Court's remark regarding the ED, that you are turning into a political party? Your throne is shaking, a wave is rising against you across the country... We have seen many ministers whom you kept in jail for years, months, and then they came out unscathed," he said.
Earlier in an exclusive interview with ANI, Rijiju stated that PM Modi had told the cabinet to keep the Prime Minister out of the Constitution Amendment Bill, but he disagreed. He said PM Modi refused to give an exception to the prime minister.
Rijiju also said the people in the country are welcoming the provisions of the Constitution Amendment Bill, and the opposition parties would have welcomed it too if they "had kept ethics at the centre."
"PM Modi told the cabinet that the recommendation is to keep the prime minister out of this bill, but he did not agree. PM Modi refused to give an exception to the prime minister. The PM is also a citizen, and he should not have special protection. Most of the CMs are from our party. If they do something wrong, they have to leave their position. Ethics should also mean something. The Opposition would have welcomed this bill had they kept ethics at the centre," he said.
"The monsoon session of the Parliament was successful from the nation's point of view and a failure from the Opposition's point of view. The government also thinks that it was a success. However, it was not well, as far as discussions are concerned, because important bills were passed. Any government brings bills to save itself... PM Modi is a prime minister who went against the recommendation and put the PM in the category that even if the prime minister commits any corruption, then he has to go to jail and leave his position. Any position, whether CM, PM or Union Ministers, cannot be above the law. What objection does the Opposition have? The nation is welcoming this revolutionary bill," he added.
The Constitution Amendment Bill provides for the removal of the Prime Minister, Chief Minister or any other Minister in the central or a state government, if he is arrested and detained in custody on account of serious criminal offences. Two more bills with similar provisions in Puducherry and Jammu and Kashmir were also introduced in the Lok Sabha. A Joint Parliamentary Committee will examine the three bills. Opposition parties have opposed the bills. (ANI)
