Even after constant reminders, U.P. govt. did not respond on PMAY scheme: Naidu
New Delhi, [India], Feb. 20 (ANI): With the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation approving the construction of 90,095 affordable houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), Union Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu took at hands the Samajwadi Party-led Uttar Pradesh Government, saying the ruling dispensation in the state was not serious about the implementation of the scheme. "The Uttar Pradesh government, through its survey had confirmed a shortage of 17,59,762 houses. At-least ten letters were written to the U.P. government but it did not wake from its sleep. Through the Common Service Centre the people of U.P. were provided with an online platform for demand registration and 10,18,579 applications were received . The U.P. government then sent a proposal for 20,287 houses against a demand of more than ten lakh," said Naidu. Expressing disappointment over the situation, the minister further said that the government of Uttar Pradesh, even after constant reminders, did not respond to the need of constructing something as essential as a house. "For something as essential as a house, for which the centre government is willing to pay, is reminding you, the U.P. government still did not respond," said the minister. The approval accorded today was for construction of 46,823 new houses under the Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC) component of PMAY (Urban), enhancement of 773 houses in Jammu & Kashmir under BLC and building 42,499 new houses in Madhya Pradesh under Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) component. With today's approvals, construction of a total number of 16,51,687 affordable houses for the benefit of urban poor has been sanctioned so far under PMAY (Urban) with a total investment of Rs.89,072 crore with central assistance of Rs.25,819 crore. TMC's jibe at Centre amid LPG crisis due to West Asia conflict

In an 'X' post, TMC said the government has "ek hi naara, line mein rahe desh bechara," pointing to past governmental measures including demonetisation, the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, the Special Identification Registration (SIR), and now the LPG shortage. The party described demonetisation as a "Tughlaqi farman" that forced ordinary citizens to wait in serpentine queues outside banks and ATMs for days to access their own money.
