"Election Commission behaving like BJP cell...": RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav

Patna (Bihar) [India], July 2 (ANI): Criticising the Election Commission of India (ECI), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Wednesday claimed that the poll panel is behaving like a cell of Bharatiya Janata Party.
Yadav said that the ECI has totally become "one-sided" and is favouring the BJP, as he claimed that the poll panel has changed its rule regarding meetings with delegations.
"Even before this, our people have been visiting the Election Commission, but this rule was not there; why are the rules being changed today? We have held two press conferences in front of the Election Commissioner. They have not responded to this issue even once, they should come forward and reply and meet with everyone," the RJD leader told mediapersons here.
"They said that they will not be with an alliance delegation, but with individual parties. Why should we meet separately? Is there even such a thing as a Constitution in this democracy or not? The Election Commission is an independent body, but it works like the BJP's cell. Till now, how many times have the BJP's people violated the rules in the elections, and any time the Election Commission has taken action," he added.
RJD leader also hit out at the ECI for not taking action against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his remarks during one of his poll campaigns in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
"The Prime Minister said all this that Mangalsutra will be snatched away and all that, he kept on making provocative statements taking the name of Hanuman, and did a road show on the day of elections. Was there ever action taken against the BJP? They have become one-sided," he added.
Earlier today, the former Bihar Deputy CM claimed that the BJP-led Centre is looking to impose President's rule in the state as they expect to lose the upcoming assembly elections.
"I feel that they will impose President's rule. In the coming months, there is a big conspiracy. Modi will impose President's rule and take it all into his hands. It is such a big issue that voting rights are being taken away, and the EC is not meeting. What else do we do? Where is justice? This is injustice," he added.
Claiming to represent multiple political parties in the matter, the meeting was initially requested by the All India Congress Committee (AICC), via an email on June 30, EC sources said.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has affirmed that the main objective of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is to avoid any "illegible" voter and ensure that no one is left out of the voter list. (ANI)
