New Delhi [India], October 9 (ANI): BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia on Wednesday hit out at Congress after its leaders described Haryana assembly elections as "totally unexpected, completely surprising, counter-intuitive and against ground-reality, saying that the Election Commission of India has made every citizen proud.
Speaking to ANI BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia said, "The Election Commission of India has made every citizen proud. It takes a lot of courage and conviction in the Constitution of India that they have decided to meet people who are casting aspersions on the Election Commision of India..."
He further asked opposition leaders to act with some responsibility, saying that the EVMs are 'Excellent Voting Machines' till the time Congress wins.
"We also hope that Rahul Gandhi and the Opposition will also act with some responsibility...When Congress wins, EVMs are 'Excellent Voting Machines' but when they lose, EVMs become 'Evil Voting Machines'. Such double standards are not acceptable in a democracy," Bhatia added.
This came after Congress leaders on Tuesday rejected Haryana assembly results saying the outcome is "totally unexpected, completely surprising, counter-intuitive and against ground-reality and that "it is not possible" for the party "to accept the results".
Addressing a press conference on the results in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir, Jairam Ramesh and Pawan Khera said they have received "very serious complaints" on the process of counting and they will move the Election Commission.
Earlier today, a delegation of Congress including KC Venugopal, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Ashok Gehlot Pratap Singh Bajwa, Jairam Ramesh, Pawan Khera, Ajay Maken and Uday Bhan went to meet the Election Commission of India to address their concerns over the results of Haryana assembly polls.
On Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir assembly election results, BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia attacked the Congress party and Rahul Gandhi, saying that every citizen of the country feels that Rahul Gandhi as a Leader of Opposition and Congress party as the principal Opposition party is the 'misfortune' of our country
"Every citizen of the country today feels that Rahul Gandhi as a Leader of Opposition and Congress party as the principal Opposition party is the misfortune of our country. Because the favorite pastime of Rahul Gandhi and the Congress is to attempt to destroy the credibility of every constitutional authority that they can attack. We are all shocked to see the reaction of Rahul Gandhi after the election results were declared for Haryana. He says that the results are unexpected but in J&K where the INDIA Alliance, he says that it is the victory of our democracy. Why these double standards and hypocrisy?
He further advised Rahul Gandhi to accept the defeat, asking him to not put the entire country to shame.
"I advise Rahul Gandhi that, as a Leader of the Opposition, don't put the entire country to shame, be responsible and accept defeat... Even in the past, we have seen that Rahul Gandhi has tried to demean constitutional bodies like the Election Commission of India and questioned the EVMs... Does he have the humility to accept the verdict given by the people of Haryana?," Bhatia added.
The BJP is set to form its third successive government in Haryana, having won 48 seats in the 90-member assembly, according to results announced on Tuesday. The Congress secured 37 seats.
In Jammu and Kashmir National Conference-Congress alliance secured an absolute majority in the Union Territory by winning 49 seats, with the former taking 42 and the latter 6 seats. (ANI)
