EC fixes timeline for political parties to release manifesto

New Delhi [India], Mar 16 (ANI): Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday announced fixing a timeline for the release of a manifesto by political parties.

New Delhi [India], Mar 16 (ANI): Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday announced fixing a timeline for the release of a manifesto by political parties.
It has issued a directive that manifestos for both single and multiphase elections shall not be released during the prohibitory period, as prescribed under Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 pertains to the prohibition of public meetings during the period of forty-eight hours ending with the hour fixed for the conclusion of poll.
Election Commission of India has also said that the provision will, henceforth, be applicable and implemented as a part of the Model Code of Conduct for all future elections. (ANI)
