New Delhi [India], January 28 (ANI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday accused Congress of insulting Sanatan Dharma, saying that the opposition party was nowhere to be seen ahead of the assembly elections in Delhi.
Taking a dig at Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Shah asked him not to mock crores of devotees visiting Mahakumbh.
"Congress, under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, have always insulted Sanatan Dharma. Kharge sahab, it is alright if you don't have faith, no one is forcing you, but don't mock 48 crore people who are visiting Mahakumbh to take a dip. Congress is nowhere to be seen. Can Congress do good for Delhi? Has AAP done it? The development only happens under BJP," Shah said while addressing a public rally in the Kalkaji assembly constituency.
His reaction comes after Kharge slammed the BJP leaders including Shah who took the holy dip in Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj.
Kharge said, "On one hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi salutes the Constitution, and on the other, he does everything against it. Don't be fooled by Modi's false promises." He further questioned, "Does taking a dip in the Ganga alleviate poverty? When children are dying of hunger, these people spend thousands of rupees on taking dips in the Ganga and competing with each other. Such people cannot do any good for the country."
The Union Home Minister further accused Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal of blocking the Ayushman Bharat Yojanain the national capital.
"Kejriwal has blocked PM Modi's Ayushman Bharat Yojana. As soon as the Delhi government is formed, in the first cabinet itself, Delhi people will get free health care facilities up to Rs 10 lakh. Along with this, OPD services and diagnostic tests will also be free of cost. The pension for senior citizens will be increased to Rs 2,500 and the pension for widows will be increased to Rs 3,000," Shah said.
The Home Minister apprised about the Atal Canteen scheme, which would be established in slum areas of Delhi, where food will be provided for five rupees.
"Atal canteen will be established in slum areas, which will provide food for Rs 5. We will end corruption in Delhi. Along with this, auto and taxi drivers will get life insurance worth Rs 10 lakh and accident insurance worth Rs 5 lakh," Shah said.
Shah along with BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj held a roadshow in Delhi's Kasturba Nagar Assembly constituency earlier today.

The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for February 5, with the counting of votes set for February 8. A total of 699 candidates are contesting for 70 assembly seats in the national capital.
The Congress, which held power in Delhi for 15 consecutive years, has faced major setbacks in the last two assembly elections, failing to win any seat. In contrast, AAP dominated the 2015 and 2020 assembly elections, securing 67 and 62 seats, respectively, out of 70, while BJP won only three and eight seats in these elections. (ANI)
