Don't punish innocent, says RJD leader on liquor ban in Bihar
Patna, Aug. 11 (ANI): The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Thursday said the new amendment in the Bihar Excise Act (alcohol ban) in the state should not be used to punish innocent people. His comment came on the backdrop of the recent proposed amendment by the state government, which state all the adult members of a family will be put behind bars, if liquor is found from their house irrespective of who consumes it. "The law that has been made, I don't think it is justified. Jurisprudence is the eye of law as per that if an innocent is punished for a crime he has not committed is more incorrect rather than releasing culprits for his crime. Any law which can prosecute the innocent shouldn't be implemented," said RJD leaders Raghuvansh Prasad Singh. He however supported the policy of banning sale and consumption of alcohol in the state and said that the policy will take some time to be implemented properly as the alcohol is still being illegally brought in the state. "Almost everyday it is there in newspaper that alcohol is being illegally transported in the state and people are arrested for it. It is being brought in the state then only the police are taking them in their custody," Singh told ANI. The Nitish Kumar-led Government prohibited liquor in Bihar earlier this year. They circulated the amended bill that is being opposed across the state. (ANI)
