Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], February 26 (ANI): Amid the Lok Sabha delimitation issue in Tamil Nadu, BJP leader N Ramchander Rao on Wednesday alleged that the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has been "spreading false news" and accused Chief Minister MK Stalin of "misleading people".
He reiterated the BJP-led Central government stand that southern states will not lose any parliamentary seats on account of the delimitation.
"DMK has been spreading false news that delimitation will reduce seats (constituencies) in South India, especially in Tamil Nadu; this is baseless. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has clarified this. BJP govt has assured that no single seat for any state...delimitation process will be done according to guidelines...Stalin should stop misleading people for his political interest".
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu unit BJP President K Annamalai on Tuesday slammed Chief Minister MK Stalin, accusing him of speaking "lies" one after another. Annamalai assured that the NDA government will do justice to all states. He assured that no southern state would lose anything, referring to parliamentary seats lost due to delimitation.
"Today, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has visited Coimbatore...In his speech, he clearly brought out in the open the anti-people policies of the DMK government. The corruption and dynastic politics are taking Tamil Nadu backwards...Not only that, our CM tells one lie one day next week he moves to another lie. CM MK Stalin got caught in the 3-language formula where the lie was about Hindi imposition. This week, he's moving to delimitation. He's saying the southern states will lose...PM Modi made it very clear a long time ago that we will not follow the Congress model of doing any anyaya (injustice) to southern India. This is NDA's government. We will do Nyaya (justice) to all states," he told ANI.
He also referred to Amit Shah's speech in Coimbatore on Wednesday."Today, Union HM Amit Shah has clarified where the delimitation will happen; when the seats increase, it is going to be a pro-rata (proportional increase) increase for all states...It will be a pro-rata up based on if and when the delimitation happens. So that no state is going to lose anything from where they are currently," he said.
In his speech, Shah said, "Sometimes it feels as if DMK has let all the corrupts in the society join DMK through a membership drive... MK Stalin and his son are raising several issues to deviate from the real issues. Today, they are going to have a meeting regarding delimitation. PM Modi had made it clear that even after delimitation, seats of none of the states of South will be decreased."
Working President of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and MLA from Siricilla, KT Rama Rao, voiced strong support for CM Stalin's opposition to the proposed delimitation process. On the social media platform X, Rama Rao stated, "I totally agree with Thiru Stalin and strongly support him on this. You cannot penalize the Southern states for religiously implementing family planning when the nation needed it the most. To execute delimitation without considering the efforts of the Southern states is not in the spirit of democracy or federalism."
On Tuesday, Stalin said in a post on social media, "Delimitation isn't just about Tamil Nadu--it affects all of South India. A democratic process should not penalise states that have successfully managed population growth, led in development, and made significant contributions to national progress. We need a fair, transparent, and equitable approach that upholds true federalism". (ANI)
