Kulgam (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], November 26 (ANI): Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday alleged that there is "fear" among the people living in Jammu and Kashmir as people are arrested without evidence.
"There is disappointment; people are being arrested. Recently, the wife of Sarjan Barkati was arrested in a terror funding case. There is no evidence, no hearing and people are just arrested and sent to jail. So, people are under coercion and fear," PDP president Mehbooba Mufti said.
She stated that the party has begun a public outreach effort to "save the people from this situation" and to meet its founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's aim of "taking Jammu and Kashmir out of this troubled quagmire."
"The PDP is ready to make any sacrifice and that is why I am going to the people," she added.
When asked about certain political figures' claims that the PDP brought the BJP to J-K by allying with the party in 2015, Mufti said there is a need for "vast vision, big thinking" to grasp her father's motivation for the agreement.
"But, some people's thinking is limited to power only. Mufti did not want to just become a Chief Minister, he wanted to resolve the issue of J-K which is not possible until you motivate the central government like he had motivated (former Prime Ministers) Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and Manmohan Singh. He tried to motivate PM Narendra Modi also to resolve the J-K issue," she said. (ANI)
