Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], April 17 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Wednesday slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav over remarks at joint press conference in Ghaziabad and said their parties would lose in the Lok Sabha polls.
"There is no hope left for the Samajwadi Party and Congress party in Uttar Pradesh, and they are going to lose the elections by a great margin," Maurya told reporters.
He also took a jibe at Samajwadi Party leaders over their PDA (Pichde, Dalit and Alpasankhyak) slogan and labelled it "Dimple Akhilesh Yadav Pvt. Ltd."
"Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav formed an alliance and contested the 2017 Assembly elections, at that time, they were in good condition. But today both parties are in the ICU and people are not ready to give them oxygen...Therefore, their remarks and statements are baseless in this Lok Sabha election. PM Modi will become PM for the third term," the deputy CM told ANI.
He said people will respond throught their votes to any derogatory remarks against PM Modi by Samajwadi Party leaders.
Earlier in the day, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi claimed that the ruling BJP will be limited to 150 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls owing to a strong undercurrent in favour of the opposition INDIA bloc.
"I do not do predictions of seats. 15-20 days ago I was thinking the BJP would win around 180 seats but now I think they will get 150 seats. We are getting reports from every state that we are improving. We have a very strong alliance in Uttar Pradesh and we will perform very well..." the former Congress president said.
The sentiment of the former Congress president was also echoed by the Samajwadi party Chief who said that the INDIA bloc had emerged as a hope for the people.
The Congress is contesting 17 seats in Uttar Pradesh in alliance with SP.
Voting for Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh will be held in seven phases. The counting of votes will be held on June 4. (ANI)
