DGCA suspends two pilots from Air India, Jet Airways for being intoxicated
New Delhi, Aug 12 (ANI): The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Friday suspended two pilots from Air India and Jet Airway pilots after they were found drunk on arrival of their overseas flights in India. Both the Airlines have been ordered to file an FIR against the pilots. During the post flight medical examination carried out by Air India on its flight no. AI-347 and AI- 998, a cabin crew member and a pilot were found under the influence of alcohol. This is in violation of the provision of Rule 24 of the Aircraft Rules, 1937, which attracts penal provision. The Government has called on the Airlines to lodge an FIR against the crew members within a period of one week and also forward a copy of the FIR to the DGCA at the earliest. Meanwhile, Jet Airways said the airline has terminated the services of the cockpit crew member who had tested positive during a breath analyser test conducted on August 3, 2016. "Jet Airways has zero tolerance towards any action of its crew that contravenes safety standards mandated in the airline's operating manual approved by DGCA. This is clearly mentioned in the prescribed service conditions for crew and is adequately emphasised during internal training sessions. In case of non-compliance, we take disciplinary action after due investigation as per company policy," the airlines said in a statement. (ANI)
