"Derogatory, filled with violence": BRS's Ravula Sridhar Reddy demands apology from Telangana CM Revanth Reddy

The political temperature in Telangana escalated sharply on Saturday after Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader Ravula Sridhar Reddy strongly condemned Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy's remarks in the Legislative Assembly, calling them "derogatory, disturbing and filled with violence," and demanded a public apology from the Chief Minister.

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], January 4 (ANI): The political temperature in Telangana escalated sharply on Saturday after Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader Ravula Sridhar Reddy strongly condemned Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy's remarks in the Legislative Assembly, calling them "derogatory, disturbing and filled with violence," and demanded a public apology from the Chief Minister.
Reacting to Revanth Reddy's comments made during the Assembly proceedings, Ravula Sridhar Reddy said the language used by the Chief Minister reflected poorly on democratic institutions. "This is a derogatory statement, filled with violence. Our temples of democracy -- the Assembly and Parliament -- are increasingly being polluted by filthy, disturbing and violent language. This clearly shows the culture of the Congress," he alleged.
BRS leader demanded an apology from Reddy and the Congress leadership, questioning his behaviour and mental status.
Positioning BRS as a responsible opposition, Ravula asserted that the party has every right to question the Congress government's performance, particularly on irrigation and water-related projects. "As the principal opposition party, BRS has the right to question the inefficiency of the Congress government in handling water issues and the completion of pending projects," he said.
Ravula also took exception to the Chief Minister's assertion that controversial remarks could be removed from Assembly records if deemed unparliamentary. "The CM has dared to say that the Speaker can remove his statements from the records if they are unparliamentary. This is a new low. I demand an apology from CM Revanth Reddy, and the Congress leadership must look into his behaviour and mental status as an individual," he said, adding that BRS "strongly condemns" the remarks.
The controversy erupted after Chief Minister Revanth Reddy made aggressive comments in the Assembly while responding to criticism from the BRS, particularly former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), over irrigation projects and Krishna River water distribution.
His remarks triggered protests by BRS legislators, who staged a walkout alleging abuse and denial of the opportunity to speak.
Reddy asserted that his government remains committed to the state and its farmers, and put on record a past statement by Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) chief K. Chandrashekar Rao, in which the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) made threatening remarks.
"We will cut your tongue," said KCR in 2021, criticising the centre and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Bandi Sanjay Kumar.
Reddy warned that if anyone questions their commitment to Telangana and its farmers, he will not only counter KCR's threat but also take action against him. "We will not just skin them, but we will cut their tongue," Reddy said, emphasising his government's dedication to the state's farmers and development.
"You speak whatever you want and criticise on anything, but if you comment against our commitment, loyalty will cut the tongue of him who said he'll (KCR) skin us. You might remove this from the records, but to register this in the minds of the public, I am officially making this statement, Speaker," said Reddy.
BRS MLA Palla Rajeshwar Reddy later said the party was boycotting the Assembly session due to "disrespect shown to opposition leaders" and accused the government of stifling dissent.
The episode has further deepened the confrontation between the Congress-led government and the BRS, with both sides trading sharp accusations over governance, farmers' welfare and irrigation management. (ANI)
