Demonetisation wars: BJP dubs Oppn as 'Betaal', says all will run away once truth is unveiled
New Delhi [India], Nov 21 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday downplayed the aggression of opposition parties against demonetisation and compared them with the comic character 'Betaal' stating that akin the celestial spirit the political outfits are spreading rumours and will run away when the truth will come out. BJP leader Siddharth Nath Singh said that opposition parties made negative claims against the demonetisation drive but none of them came true. "The opposition can continue to deviate the issue. It is just matter of time things will happen positively for the country. But the opposition wants to run away from the debate and the behaviour of all these political parties Congress, TMC and AAP reminds me the younger days where we used to read about 'Vikram and Betaal'. In the current situation Betaal is represented by opposition parties whose job is to lie and spread rumours but when the truth came out he used to run away," Singh told ANI here. "Similarly, in this case the opposition parties said that a chaos will be created, riots will happen, but nothing happened, the common man despite of little problems is standing by Prime Minister Modi. So all in all they represent nobody but the character of Betaal," he added. Both the Houses of Parliament have been witnessing a stormy debate over demonetisation during the first three days of the winter session. In the Lok Sabha, the Congress and some other opposition parties insisted on a discussion on demonetisation under Rule 56, which entails voting and through an adjournment motion that implies suspension of all other business. In both Houses, the opposition parties insisted on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's presence while opposing demonetisation. In the Rajya Sabha, treasury benches also resorted to slogans after Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi referred to the Leader of the Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad's statement that more people had died because of demonetisation than had been killed in the Uri terror attack on September 18 this year. Meanwhile, the BJP has issued a whip to party's Rajya Sabha members, asking them to be present in the House for three days starting tomorrow. Ruling National Democratic Alliance lacks majority in the Rajya Sabha and BJP believes that a maximum presence of its members would be required in case of any voting. (ANI)
